Additionally, the tournament set a new attendance record for a women’s game on the continent during the Group Phase in Lille, with the final game between host nation France and Australia drawing a staggering 27,193 fans, marking a significant milestone for women’s basketball in Europe.
The iconic Bercy Arena in Paris, with a seating capacity of 13,000, also saw record attendance, with every game drawing between 11,852 and 12,454 fans, culminating in a total attendance of 201,633. The final game, where the men’s USA team secured the gold medal, was a fitting conclusion to the tournament’s immense success.
The inaugural inclusion of 3×3 basketball at the Olympics was also a resounding success, with seven days of action at Place de la Concorde drawing a complete sell-out of 4,000 spectators at each session, totaling 72,000 attendees. This marked a historic moment as it was the first time that 3×3 basketball was played at the Olympics in front of a live audience, further solidifying the sport’s popularity and global appeal.
