Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch Relay Set to Ignite Fourteen Days of Celebrations Across France!

Hold onto your hats, everyone! The Paralympic Torch Relay is about to commence, ushering in a new wave of celebrations as the Paralympic Games approach. Just over a week ago, viewers around the world were captivated by the remarkable competitions and intense emotions of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Now, it is time for the Paralympic Games to take center stage! And what better way to ignite the spirit of the Return Match of the Games of Paris 2024 than with the Paralympic Torch Relay, generously sponsored by Coca-Cola, Banque Populaire, and Caisse d’Epargne?

The festivities will begin on August 24th in Stoke Mandeville, England, where the Paralympic Flame will be kindled to honor the origins of the Paralympic Games. Stoke Mandeville hospital in 1948 served as the birthplace of the Paralympic Games, hosting the first sports competitions for World War II veterans and inspiring the inaugural Paralympics in Rome in 1960.

Following the lighting ceremony on August 24th, the Paralympic Flame will embark on an extraordinary journey through France. The Flame will traverse the Channel Tunnel, marking the historic arrival of the Summer Paralympic Games in France for the first time in history. Subsequently, the Flame will be divided into 12 Flames, each representing the 12 days of festivities and unique emotions of the Paralympic Games. The Torch Relay will involve 1,200 Torchbearers, covering over 50 towns and cities, to shine a light on sport, inclusion, disability awareness, French history, and heritage.

In a historic first, a 13th Torch will be lit in Paris on August 25th, participating in the 80th-anniversary commemoration of the Liberation of Paris and joining the official ceremony at Place Denfert-Rochereau. The Torch will conclude the day on the main stage of the Rock en Seine festival for a distinctive sequence fusing music and sport.

The Torch Relay, sponsored by Coca-Cola, Banque Populaire, and Caisse d’Epargne, will culminate in Paris with the lighting of the iconic Cauldron of the Games of Paris 2024 on August 28th, concurrent with the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games. Public access to the Cauldron during the Paralympic Games will be complimentary, providing spectators with the opportunity to once again marvel at this iconic symbol of the Games.

Following the Torch Relay, celebrations of the Paralympic Games will be held across France in 70 Clubs 2024, including 18 festive sites in the City of Paris, where fans can partake in live broadcasts of the Paralympic events, cultural events, and various sports activities. Additionally, Paris 2024 will launch 200 Mini-Clubs from August 28th to September 8th in schools, universities, and recreational centers to involve the educational community in the spirit of the Paralympic Games.
