The Alleged Forgery of King Salman’s Signature by Crown Prince MBS for Yemen War Authorization
A former royal adviser, Saad Al-Jabri, has recently made a shocking claim that Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS), the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, forged the signature of his father, King Salman, in order to initiate the deployment of ground troops to Yemen. This accusation was reported by The Times and is featured in a new BBC documentary.
During the documentary titled “The Kingdom: The World’s Most Powerful Prince,” Al-Jabri, who previously served as an aide to former Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Nayef (MBN), revealed that MBS, who was the Minister of Defense at the time, played a major role in the 2015 military intervention against the Houthi movement and allied forces in the Yemeni military. According to Al-Jabri, MBN initially opposed the idea of a ground intervention, expressing concerns about the readiness and capabilities of the Saudi army for such a task. In response, a decree was issued by the king, supposedly under the influence of MBN, to prevent any ground interventions. However, they were later surprised to discover a royal decree authorizing the ground interventions, which was alleged to have been forged by MBS.
The consequences of the Saudi-led coalition’s involvement in Yemen have been devastating, with nearly 400,000 deaths and 4.5 million people displaced, as estimated by the United Nations. Additionally, the coalition’s air raids led to the deaths of almost 9,000 individuals and injuries to over 10,000 people.
Al-Jabri, currently residing in Canada after fleeing the kingdom in 2017, claims that his allegations are based on reliable sources within the Ministry of Interior who have confirmed the forgery. In response to these claims, Sir John Sawers, the former chief of MI6, stated that while he could not verify the specific act of forgery, it is evident that the decision to intervene militarily in Yemen was driven by MBS, rather than his father.
This revelation raises serious concerns about the decision-making process within the Saudi leadership and the accountability of those in power. The alleged forgery of King Salman’s signature to authorize a military intervention in Yemen, if proven true, would represent a significant breach of trust and misuse of authority by the Crown Prince.
The ramifications of these actions on the people of Yemen and the region as a whole cannot be understated, and it is crucial for all responsible parties to be held accountable for their actions. This underscores the importance of transparency, credibility, and ethical conduct in matters of governance and international relations.
As more information comes to light, it is essential for independent investigations to be conducted, and for the international community to closely monitor the situation in Yemen and hold those responsible for any wrongdoing to account. The pursuit of justice and truth is paramount in ensuring the well-being of affected populations and upholding the principles of integrity and ethical leadership.
