The Upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics: A Historic Team Gears Up for the Summer Games

As the much-anticipated Paris 2024 Paralympic Games draw near, the focus is now on the unprecedented Refugee Paralympic Team. Comprising eight extraordinary athletes, the team is poised to make history at the Summer Games. In the days leading up to the opening ceremony, it is imperative to closely examine the inspiring individuals who will be representing the Paralympic Refugee Team at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The team is formed by Zakia Khudadadi (Para taekwondo), Guillaume Junior Atangana (Para athletics), Ibrahim Al Hussein (Para triathlon), Salman Abbariki (Para athletics), Hadi Darvish (Para powerlifting), Sayed Amir Hossein Hosseini Pour (Para table tennis), Amelio Castro Grueso (Wheelchair fencing), and Hadi Hassanzada (Para taekwondo). Accompanied by two guides, this exceptional group of Para athletes will be showcasing their talents in six different disciplines at the Paralympics.

Under the guidance of Chef de Mission Nyasha Mharakurwa, the team has been meticulously preparing for the forthcoming games. Originating from diverse backgrounds and cultures, the athletes have come together as a close-knit family, bound by their shared experiences and the common objective of representing the millions of people worldwide who have been displaced or are living with disabilities.

In anticipation of the Summer Games, the team spent several days at the Centre for Resources, Expertise and Sport Performance (CREPS) in Reims, honing their skills before journeying to Paris for the highly anticipated opening ceremony. This preparatory phase has been the first of its kind for the Paralympic Refugee Team, offering the athletes a priceless opportunity to form connections and foster camaraderie prior to the Games.

The team’s unwavering dedication and tenacity have been truly remarkable, particularly in light of the obstacles they have overcome in their respective journeys. Their resolute commitment to their sport and their unity as a team have served as a source of inspiration for many, including the local schoolchildren in Reims, who recently interacted with the athletes and extended their heartfelt support.
