Australian Pole Vaulter Kurtis Marschall Ties for Third Place in Lausanne Diamond League 2024

Australian athlete Kurtis Marschall delivered an impressive performance in the men’s pole vault event at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 in Switzerland. The 27-year-old achieved a leap of 5.82m on the penultimate round, securing joint third place with Sondre Guttormsen of Norway and John Ernest Obiena of the Philippines.

Marschall, a two-time Commonwealth Games champion, has been making significant strides in the pole vault event. Earlier this year, he finished sixth at the Paris Diamond League athletics event with a 5.75m leap. Additionally, he represented Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing sixth with a leap of 5.85m.

It is noteworthy that Marschall’s personal best in the pole vault is 5.95m, achieved at a meet in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, France last year. However, he still has some ground to cover before reaching the Australian national record of 6.06m, which has been held by Steven Hooker for the past 15 years.

In the same event, Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis maintained his dominance, setting a new meet record at the Lausanne Diamond League with a 6.15m leap on his final attempt. This comes after his world record mark of 6.25m at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he secured the gold medal.

The Lausanne Diamond League also saw two-time Olympic medallist Sam Kendricks of the USA finish second with a stellar 5.92m leap. Meanwhile, Paris 2024 bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis of Greece also achieved the 5.82m mark but finished sixth after taking an extra attempt to clear the height.

Duplantis has been enjoying a sensational winning streak this year, securing three first-place finishes at the Diamond League meets in Xiamen, Stockholm, and Paris earlier in the year. His performance in Lausanne solidifies his position as one of the top pole vaulters in the world.

The Lausanne Diamond League 2024 has showcased incredible talent in the pole vault event, with athletes from various countries delivering impressive performances. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing global pandemic, athletes like Marschall, Duplantis, Kendricks, and Karalis have continued to push the boundaries of the sport and inspire fans around the world with their remarkable skills and determination.
