Sarabjot Singh Shares Insights on Training and Aspirations for Paris 2024 Olympics

Sarabjot Singh, a distinguished shooter who earned India its inaugural Olympic medal in a mixed shooting event alongside Manu Bhaker, recently provided significant insights regarding their training regimen leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Remarkably, Singh disclosed that he and Bhaker had minimal joint training sessions prior to their historic performance, highlighting that their timings for individual practice differed significantly. While his training sessions commenced at 9 AM, Bhaker’s began at noon, allowing for a mere 30-minute mixed session before each athlete trained separately. He recounted their interactions as typically terse, focusing primarily on their commitment to giving their utmost effort, complemented by lighthearted exchanges between them.

Singh also expressed admiration for Turkish shooting legend Yusuf Dikec, whom he has followed since 2011, seeking inspiration from Dikec’s long-standing excellence in the sport. At just 22 years of age, Singh remarked, “Even though I have tried, I could not match his perfection. If I had the chance, I would ask him what he eats?”

Furthermore, Singh shared the significance behind the engraving on his pistol, which bears the inscription “SSINGH30.” This engraving commemorates his remarkable achievement of securing a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou on September 30.

Throughout his athletic journey, Singh has encountered various challenges. He noted that meditation and a specialized yogic technique known as Trataka have aided in his development. He described the practice: “I used to look at a candle flame with my eyes open for three minutes, then visualize for two minutes.” He emphasized the importance of visualization in enhancing performance and the focused tranquility this method provides.

In conclusion, the Olympic medalist articulated his aspirations for the future, particularly with respect to the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Games, asserting, “I want to change its color,” indicating his intent to strive for a gold medal to complement his current bronze accolade.

Sarabjot Singh demonstrates a commendable balance of dedication, reflection, and ambition as he prepares for his future competitions, reaffirming his place as a notable athlete in the shooting sports community.
