Ernest Nuamah Set to Miss Ghana’s Upcoming Matches Due to Injury

Ernest Nuamah, the promising winger for the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, is expected to be absent for the upcoming matches against Angola and Niger due to an injury sustained during a recent Ligue 1 fixture. This incident occurred during Olympique Lyon’s home contest against AS Monaco, where Nuamah was forced to exit the game early in the 18th minute and was replaced by teammate Georges Mikautadze. Following his departure from the field, Olympique Lyon suffered a setback, ultimately losing the match 2-0, placing them at the bottom of the league standings without any points.

The full extent of Nuamah’s injury remains unclear at this juncture; however, indications suggest that the 23-year-old may not be fit to participate in the Black Stars’ first two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled for the upcoming month. The national team is set to compete against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by a match against Niger on September 9.

It has been reported by Footballghana.com that head coach Otto Addo has already finalized and submitted the squad for these important matches to the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association. Notably, the selected squad does not include any players from the Ghana Premier League, as highlighted in previous reports from the same source. Coach Addo is expected to assemble a robust lineup as the Black Stars aim to secure qualification for the AFCON tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco next year.

Ghana is determined to build on its recent performance, having achieved consecutive victories against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers held in June. The absence of Nuamah represents a significant loss for the team as they look to maintain their competitive form in the upcoming qualifiers.
