Armand Duplantis has once again demonstrated his exceptional talent by shattering his own pole vault world record for the tenth time at the Silesia Diamond League. On Sunday, he cleared an impressive height of 6.26 meters on his second attempt, surpassing the previous record of 6.25 meters which he set following his gold medal victory at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Duplantis secured his victory at the event by successfully clearing 6.00 meters before proceeding to raise the bar to 6.26 meters.
In an interview with Reuters post-event, Duplantis expressed his gratitude, stating, “This year I focused on the Olympics, the record just came naturally because I was in good shape. So I am not surprised with the record today, but I am thankful.” He also reflected on the overwhelming support he receives during competitions, particularly in Poland, where his journey began with his first world record indoors in Torun in 2020. “It almost feels weird and unnatural to get so much love and support from the crowds when I compete,” he remarked, noting that the energy in the stadium continues to increase each year.
Furthermore, in the same competition, Sam Kendricks, who won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics, managed to clear 6.00 meters but fell short in his attempts to surpass 6.08 meters, thus claiming the second position. Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, the bronze medalist from Paris, finished in third place.
Recalling his remarkable experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Duplantis highlighted the electrifying environment at the Stade de France as he achieved his record-breaking clearance of 6.25 meters, which captivated the audience. “If I do not beat this moment in my career, then I am pretty okay with that. I do not believe one can experience anything better than what just transpired,” he affirmed. Following the conclusion of the Olympics, he took a well-deserved vacation in Greece.
