Lucas Mazur: Aiming for Glory at the Paris 2024 Paralympics
Lucas Mazur, the reigning Paralympic champion in men’s singles SL4 para badminton, is poised to defend his title at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. As the commencement of the competitions on August 29 approaches, Mr. Mazur expresses optimism that the Porte de la Chapelle Arena will serve as his good luck charm. After an intense training regimen in recent weeks, he has stated, “I guess I am (in good shape) because I have worked a lot, very hard, in the past weeks,” and he is keen on utilizing lessons learned from his experiences in Tokyo.
In addition to his gold medal performance in the singles event at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Mr. Mazur also earned a silver medal in the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles category alongside Faustine Noël. Recollecting this experience, he noted, “It was at the end of the Paralympics in Tokyo so a lot of French staff from the other sports came to support me. I got a bit of noise there and it was amazing for me.” Such support reinforces his confidence as he heads into the upcoming games in Paris.
Mr. Mazur is particularly enthusiastic about competing at the Paris 2024 Games, as he was inspired by the electric atmosphere he observed during the recent Olympic Games. He expressed his anticipation, stating, “I feel very excited and proud for France to host the Paralympic Games. I look forward to playing in this beautiful arena.” With his first match scheduled against an Indonesian pair in the mixed doubles category, he acknowledges the significance of the adjustments he has made in his preparation. Earlier this year, he transitioned to a new coach and training location, a decision he believes has greatly influenced his growth and readiness.
He remarked on the importance of adapting to both positive and challenging moments in competition, stating, “The biggest challenge is to find my way and to accept the up-and-down moments. I must focus on my competition. I know that the crowd will be supporting me.” Mr. Mazur recognizes his rival, India’s Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, as a formidable presence in the tournament. However, he remains grounded, emphasizing, “I guess it will be a new final for us but right now I am trying to stay focused and take it step by step.” Own goal matches are his current priority, underscoring a disciplined approach as he navigates this prestigious competition.
As Lucas Mazur prepares for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, his dedication, strategic choices, and heartfelt appreciation for the support surrounding him provide an encouraging foundation for another potential triumph in his stellar career.
