Altercation Between Trump Campaign Staff and Official at Arlington National Cemetery
On Monday, two individuals affiliated with Donald Trump’s campaign were involved in a verbal and confrontational episode with an official at Arlington National Cemetery, where the former president participated in a wreath-laying ceremony. According to sources familiar with the situation, the cemetery official intervened to prevent campaign staff from photographing and filming in Section 60, a designated area for recent military casualties, where it is strictly prohibited for unauthorized personnel to take images.
The cemetery’s regulations clearly state that only authorized cemetery personnel may photograph or film in this sensitive area. When confronted by the official, Trump campaign staff allegedly responded with verbal hostilities and physically disregarded the official’s attempts to maintain order.
This incident occurred during a solemn event commemorating the third anniversary of an attack in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members amid the withdrawal of American forces. The Trump campaign has consistently criticized President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris regarding the handling of the withdrawal, which they claim was chaotic.
In an official statement, Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, rejected claims of a physical altercation, asserting that the campaign is prepared to release evidence to counter such allegations. Cheung characterized the cemetery official’s actions as an overreach and suggested that an individual involved appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis, thereby obstructing the campaign team’s participation in the ceremonial proceedings.
Arlington National Cemetery confirmed that an incident occurred and that a report was filed concerning the matter. Furthermore, the cemetery emphasized the federal law prohibiting political activities within its grounds, which includes restrictions against photography or campaigning in support of any political candidate. Officials from Arlington National Cemetery have reiterated these regulations to all attendees to ensure compliance during events held at this hallowed site.
