Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo Reveals 23-Man Squad for Angola and Niger Matches in AFCON 2025 Qualifiers

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has officially announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Angola and Niger, which are slated for early September. The national team last convened in June, achieving back-to-back victories against Mali and the Central African Republic during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The selected players are expected to report for training by Monday, September 2, 2024, in preparation for the qualifiers, with the opening match set for September 5 in Kumasi, followed by a second match on September 9 in Berkane. Coach Addo’s lineup reflects a consistent group with no significant surprises; it notably retains pivotal players such as Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Jordan Ayew, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

Noteworthy inclusions are Inaki Williams and Majeed Ashimeru, both of whom return to the squad after absence from earlier matches. Only Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko is represented from the domestic league. Conversely, Captain Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey have been excluded from this selection.

The Black Stars are set to commence their qualifying campaign against Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium, with a subsequent match against Niger scheduled for four days later in Berkane. This competitive stage is critical for the team’s aspirations in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
