Laura Rogora Achieves Dual Victory in Women’s Boulder and Lead Events at IFSC European Championships 2024
At the 2024 IFSC European Championships held in Villars-sur-Ollon, Laura Rogora displayed remarkable prowess in sport climbing by achieving victory in both the women’s Boulder and Lead finals. The 23-year-old Italian athlete, who had already secured a gold medal in the women’s Lead competition the previous evening, demonstrated exceptional stamina and competitive spirit as she performed admirably once again on Sunday, September 1.
Entering the Lead section trailing in fifth place after recording a score of 59.5 in the Boulder event, Ms. Rogora exhibited her commendable climbing skills as she ascended the lead wall to attain a significant score of 96.1. This remarkable performance elevated her total to an impressive 155.6, allowing her to clinch the gold medal, while Ukrainian climber Ievgeniia Kazbekova followed closely behind with a total score of 152.8, earning the silver medal. France’s Zelia Avezou rounded out the podium with a total score of 151.8, securing the bronze.
The competition was heightened as attention turned to Ayala Kerem of Israel, who opened the Boulder event with a stellar performance that set her atop the standings with a score of 99.5. However, an early fall in the Lead section compromised her chances for a medal, enabling Ms. Rogora and the leading qualifier, Kazbekova, to pursue their ambitions unimpeded. This event marked a significant achievement for Ms. Kazbekova as well, who, after earning her silver in both the Boulder and Lead competitions, substantially augmented her accolades as a two-time European medalist at this championship.
As the championship progresses, attention now shifts to the upcoming men’s Boulder and Lead final, which will be broadcast livestream globally on the IFSC YouTube channel. However, viewers within Europe may enjoy the semifinal and final events through the Discovery+ and Eurosport Player platforms, accessible by subscription. For those unable to watch live, recordings of each round will be available for free viewing on the Olympic Channel within 24 hours following the event.
