Paris 2024 Paralympics: Day 4 Highlights and Updates on Indian Athletes
On September 1, the fourth day of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Indian athletes continued their quest for medals amidst a demanding competition. The day began with para shuttlers Mandeep Kaur and Palak Kohli entering the arena; however, both were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Nonetheless, Manisha distinguished herself by advancing to the semi-finals, thus ensuring a medal for India in her event, as she prepares to face compatriot Thulasimathi Murugesan.
In the shooting division, Avani Lekhara, the gold medalist in the individual category, encountered challenges in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 event, ultimately falling short alongside fellow participant Sidhartha Babu, who struggled throughout the qualification rounds. Preethi Pal, having previously secured silver in the Women’s 100m T35 event, looked forward to establishing further success in the Women’s 200m T35 event later in the day.
Among the updates, it was reported that Avani Lekhara began strongly, initially securing a series score of 105.7, placing her in fourth position. However, her performance deteriorated as she dropped to 15th with a subsequent series score of 104.8. Meanwhile, Sidhartha found himself in 28th place with a score of 103.6 after his fifth series.
The day’s competition also featured Mandeep Kaur, who lost her quarter-final match decisively against Nigeria’s Mariam Eniola Bolaji, concluding her journey in the tournament. Bolaji will advance to compete against China’s Xiao Zuxian in the Women’s Singles SL3 Semifinal.
