Philippines Officially Expresses Displeasure to China Over South China Sea Collision
The Philippines has officially communicated its displeasure to China following an incident where vessels from both nations collided in the South China Sea on Saturday. According to Enrique Manalo, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines, diplomatic channels have been utilized to relay concerns regarding the matter. He stated during a press conference held on Monday that the Philippine government has made necessary approaches to China to express its complaints and dissatisfaction with how the situation unfolded.
In addition to expressing displeasure, Secretary Manalo articulated the Philippines’ concerns that China is exacerbating tensions stemming from what was essentially routine navigation conducted by a Philippine vessel. In response to inquiries regarding potential legal actions that may be pursued, he replied that the government is currently evaluating possible avenues to address the issue effectively.
Further complicating the geopolitical landscape, Japan has also registered its protests against China for a recent territorial incursion, marking the second incident in less than a week. Concurrently, both the Philippines and China have leveled accusations against one another, each claiming intentional acts of ramming their respective vessels in the contentious South China Sea region.
Amid these tensions, China has dismissed damage claims raised by the Philippines at the Sabina Shoal, asserting that there is no scientific foundation to support such allegations.
