Sumit Antil Defends Gold Medal in Men’s Javelin Throw F64, Sets New Paralympic Record at Paris 2024

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, Sumit Antil successfully defended his gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 category during the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Competing at the prestigious Stade de France, Antil delivered an impressive throw of 70.59 meters, surpassing his previous Paralympic record of 68.55 meters set at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Antil’s performance began with a solid throw of 69.11 meters, which initially broke his own record. He then elevated his performance further with his remarkable 70.59-meter attempt in the subsequent round, solidifying his dominance in the event. Throughout the competition, Antil executed four additional attempts measuring 66.66 meters, a foul, 69.04 meters, and 66.57 meters.

In this event, fellow Indian athletes Sandeep and Sandip Sanjay Sargar participated, achieving fourth and seventh places respectively with throws of 62.80 meters and 58.03 meters. The silver medal in the event was claimed by Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku, who set a new World Record in the F44 category with a throw of 67.03 meters. Australia’s Michal Buran secured the bronze medal with a commendable throw of 64.89 meters.

With this victory, Sumit Antil significantly contributed to India’s medal tally at the ongoing Paralympics, bringing the nation’s total to 14 medals, which include three gold, five silver, and six bronze.
