Arisa Trew Secures Women’s World Vert Skateboarding Title at World Skate Games Italia 2024
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Arisa Trew has claimed the women’s world vert skateboarding title at the esteemed World Skate Games Italia 2024, held on September 7. Just over a month following her triumph at the Olympic women’s park event, the 14-year-old athlete from Australia impressed spectators with a noteworthy performance that secured her victory.
Trew commenced her contest with an initial run score of 84.51, placing her momentarily behind 13-year-old Hasegawa Mizuho. However, Trew quickly showcased her prowess, executing a switch McTwist on her second attempt, which earned her a score of 88.57. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone, as Trew became the first woman to successfully land this challenging maneuver, a 540 backside spin with a Mute grab executed on her non-dominant foot, earlier in May.
The excitement in Rome was palpable as the audience erupted in cheers upon witnessing Trew’s extraordinary trick execution against the sunny backdrop of the event. Building on her success, Trew enhanced her winning score with a third-round performance, achieving a score of 68.96, culminating in a total score of 242.02. This placed her more than 24 points ahead of Mizuho, the youngest competitor in the contest, who, after a promising start with scores of 57.08 and 74.87, was unable to finish strong as she faltered in her final attempts.
Completing the podium was Kaihara Asahi, who secured third place with a total score of 207.59, following a commendable performance that included her previous silver medal achievement at the 2022 World Skate Games. Other notable competitors included Lilly Stoephasius, Dora Varella, and Raicca Ventura, who placed fourth, fifth, and eighth, respectively. Australian skaters Jada Ward and Elisa Pols rounded out the field with sixth and seventh-place finishes.
With her recent victory in Rome, Trew now turns her focus towards the upcoming X Games Chiba 2024, where she will transition back to the park bowl in pursuit of yet another championship. As the competition unfolded, anticipation builds for the men’s vert final, which is set to take place later on the same day. Arisa Trew’s outstanding achievement not only highlights her exceptional talent but also marks a significant milestone in women’s skateboarding history.
