Egypt Faces Major Setback as Key Players Omitted Ahead of Botswana Match
The Egyptian national football team has encountered a significant setback as the coaching staff announced the exclusion of two prominent players, Mostafa Mohamed and Omar Marmoush, from the squad set to face Botswana. This decision comes following injuries sustained by both athletes during the team’s initial match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Cape Verde, held on Friday.
As reported by FilGoal, medical evaluations indicated that neither Mohamed nor Marmoush would recover in time for the forthcoming matchup, prompting the coaching staff to rule them out of the competition. The duo had played a crucial role in Egypt’s victory over Cape Verde, with Marmoush contributing to the second goal, affirming their importance to the team’s offensive strategy.
In addition to the absence of the injured players, Mohamed Abdelmonem, who recently transferred to Nice, has also been excluded from the squad and no replacement has been called up.
The Pharaohs are now poised to maintain their positive momentum under the guidance of Coach Hossam Hassan as they prepare to take on Botswana in the second round of qualifiers scheduled for Tuesday.
