Saudi Project Masam Successfully Eliminates 766 Explosive Devices in Yemen
Members of Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam successfully removed a total of 766 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen in the past week. This commendable effort included the clearing of 12 anti-personnel mines, 41 anti-tank mines, 702 unexploded ordnances, and 11 additional explosive devices, as detailed in an official report. Ousama Al-Gosaibi, the managing director of the initiative, highlighted that since the project commenced in 2018, a cumulative total of 458,477 mines has been eliminated, significantly mitigating risks to civilian populations that include vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.
The demining operations took place across multiple areas, including Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada. These efforts are pivotal for enhancing the safety of daily activities in villages, along roads, and in educational institutions, thereby facilitating safe movement for civilians and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance.
As the threat posed by indiscriminately planted explosives is persistent, Project Masam remains dedicated to protecting the lives of Yemeni people by continuing its critical demining initiatives. This project not only fosters immediate safety but also contributes to the long-term stabilization of affected regions, allowing for reconstruction and recovery efforts to progress effectively.
In conclusion, the ongoing work of Project Masam showcases Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians in conflict-affected areas, offering a beacon of hope amid adversity in Yemen.
