Paris 2024 Olympic Games Donate Hockey Pitches to Foster Development in France
The Paris 2024 Games have donated three Olympic hockey pitches to the FFH to enhance local hockey development. The clubs selected include T.A.C. le Touquet, FC Lyon, and Segré en-Anjou-Bleu. This initiative represents a successful collaboration among various sports organizations and highlights the importance of legacy in the Olympics.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have officially announced the donation of three Olympic hockey pitches to the French Hockey Federation (FFH). This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort among the FFH, the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, the National Agency for Sports (ANS), the Hauts-de-Seine Department, and the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The donated turf, which was utilized during the hockey tournaments at the Yves-du Manoir Stadium, is aimed at fostering the growth of hockey across France. The selected recipient clubs for these Olympic pitches are T.A.C. le Touquet, FC Lyon, and Segré en-Anjou-Bleu. These clubs were chosen following a competitive tendering process initiated by the FFH on November 4, 2022, with oversight from the legacy grounds commission associated with Paris 2024. The selection process considered a variety of criteria, including each club’s development proposal, existing infrastructure, and their commitment to hosting national or international hockey events for five consecutive years. Both FC Lyon and T.A.C. le Touquet are set to install the donated turf soon, whereas Segré en-Anjou-Bleu will complete the installation in 2025. The Executive Leadership of both the FFH and FIH have expressed enthusiasm regarding these developments, highlighting the importance of legacy in high-profile sports events such as the Olympics. FIH President Tayyab Ikram remarked, “Legacy is a major objective for sports event organisers, and even more so with events of such a high magnitude as the Olympics. I would like to congratulate the French hockey community for having put the legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic hockey tournaments very high on their agenda. I’m convinced that the three clubs recipients of the world-class turf used for the Games… will promptly see the benefits of this for their own development.” FFH President Isabelle Jouin also commended the cooperative efforts of the involved stakeholders, stating, “This material legacy is a great success, based on cooperation with our strategic stakeholders: Paris 2024, FIH, the ANS and the Hauts-de-Seine Department. I am very proud of this mutual understanding of the challenges of the growth of hockey in our country.” The pitches in question are of the latest generation made from Polytan’s Poligras Paris GT zero, recognized as the first climate-neutral synthetic hockey turf.
The donation of Olympic hockey pitches following the Paris 2024 Games is designed to promote the sport of hockey in France. This legacy initiative aims to leave behind valuable resources that can be utilized for the development of local clubs and the broader hockey community. The cooperation between various stakeholders underlines the importance of a strategic approach to sports development, with a focus on sustainability and community engagement.
The donation of Olympic hockey pitches to three French clubs marks a significant step in ensuring the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games extends beyond the event itself. This initiative not only benefits the selected clubs but also serves to enhance the overall growth of hockey in France. The collaboration among sports organizations illustrates a collective commitment to fostering a thriving sporting culture in the country. The expressed satisfaction of stakeholders, including leaders from the FIH and FFH, underscores the positive impact of such initiatives on the future of sports in France.
