The Seychelles is set to host a significant trade fair as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, aimed at enhancing connections between local entrepreneurs and businesses from Chengdu, China. Organized by the Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA), this event will take place at the Berjaya Beauvallon Bay Hotel from November 21 to 23, coinciding with the inaugural direct flight from Chengdu operated by Sichuan Airlines. Approximately 34 businesses from Chengdu are expected to participate, showcasing a variety of sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and crafts. Lisa Lautoy, CEO of ESA, stated that Seychellois companies have expressed a desire for direct contact with Chinese suppliers to facilitate innovation and product development. The fair offers an opportunity for these companies to network without intermediaries, fostering valuable connections. In addition to the trade fair, several activities will be held throughout Global Entrepreneurship Week. Jeevan Palani, the director general from the Ministry of Investment, discussed plans for a financial awareness fair, a Crowd Funding Awareness Forum, and an Impact Assessment Workshop designed to aid entrepreneurs in understanding funding opportunities and the impact of their businesses on sustainable development. Overall, the trade fair and accompanying events are expected to provide a platform for Seychellois entrepreneurs to engage directly with Chinese businesses, explore new equipment, and enhance their operational capabilities, thereby contributing to local economic growth.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week is an annual initiative that promotes entrepreneurship across the globe through a series of events aimed at empowering businesses. In Seychelles, this year’s event will particularly focus on establishing direct links with Chinese businesses from Chengdu, addressing the barriers local entrepreneurs experience when trying to connect with suppliers in China. This initiative is critical in fostering innovation and growth within Seychellois industries, providing them with exposure to international markets and resources.

The upcoming trade fair in Seychelles represents a pivotal moment for local entrepreneurs to strengthen ties with Chinese businesses, enhancing the potential for innovation and collaboration. This initiative, part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, not only emphasizes direct engagement but also addresses critical issues faced by local entrepreneurs, such as access to finance and resource opportunities. It is a strategic move towards bolstering the local economy through international partnerships and knowledge exchange.
