PV Sindhu Secures Title at Syed Modi International 2024 Badminton Tournament
PV Sindhu claimed her first BWF World Tour title since July 2022 by overcoming Wu Luo Yu from China in the women’s singles final at the Syed Modi International 2024 in Lucknow. Lakshya Sen also secured the men’s singles crown. Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly triumphed in women’s doubles, while Indian pairs faced defeats in mixed and men’s doubles finals.
At the Syed Modi International 2024 badminton tournament held in Lucknow, Indian shuttler PV Sindhu clinched her first BWF World Tour title since July 2022, defeating Wu Luo Yu of China in the women’s singles final with a score of 21-14, 21-16. This victory marked a significant achievement for Sindhu, who had not secured a title since her win at the Singapore Open in 2022. Sindhu, currently ranked 18th in the world, had previously reached the finals of both the 2023 Spain Masters and the 2024 Malaysia Masters but fell short in those matches.
Additionally, Lakshya Sen, a semi-finalist in the Paris 2024 Olympics, triumphed in the men’s singles final by overcoming Singapore’s Jason Teh, ranking 39th globally, with an impressive 21-6, 21-7 finish within just over 30 minutes. This victory represents Sen’s fifth BWF World Tour title since his last win at the Canada Open in 2023.
In the women’s doubles category, the Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly secured their second BWF World Tour title, triumphing against the Chinese pair Bao Li Jing and Li Qian with a score of 21-18, 21-11. However, in the mixed doubles competition, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were unable to clinch the title, losing to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran in a closely contested match.
Lastly, Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K were also outmatched in the men’s doubles final by the Chinese duo Huang Di and Liu Yang after a tightly contested match that concluded with a score of 21-14, 19-21, 21-17.
