In a national poll organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, sharpshooter Trinh Thu Vinh has been honored as Vietnam’s most outstanding athlete of 2024, achieving a remarkable score of 1,286. The annual poll, which began in 1978, included over 200 sports journalists who voted for the nation’s top athletes, coaches, and teams. Vinh’s exceptional year featured a gold medal at the Asian Shooting Championships and a top-four finish in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The second and third positions were awarded to billiards player Tran Quyet Chien and volleyball player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, respectively.
In the 2024 coach-of-the-year category, Nguyen Tuan Kiet, coach of the national women’s volleyball team, won with 482 points. He was followed by billiards coach Nguyen Viet Hoa and women’s futsal coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang. The national women’s indoor volleyball team was recognized as the outstanding team of the year with 341 points, with the women’s futsal team and the 4x400m women’s relay team coming in second and third, respectively.
In the category for athletes with disabilities, powerlifter Le Van Cong took first place with 538 points, supported by Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan and swimmer Le Tien Dat.
