Indian Men’s Table Tennis Team Eliminated by China at Paris 2024 Olympics

The Indian men’s table tennis team has been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics, suffering a defeat at the hands of the defending champions, the People’s Republic of China. In the round of 16, India, which was seeded 14th, lost to the top-seeded Chinese team with a score of 3-0 in a best-of-five match format. The team members included Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, and Manav Thakkar.

In their opening match, the Indian pair of Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar faced Olympic legend Ma Long and world No. 1 Wang Chuqin in the men’s doubles. The formidable Chinese duo overpowered them decisively. Following this, Sharath Kamal, ranked No. 41 globally, contended against world No. 2 Fan Zhendong, winning one game but ultimately succumbing 3-1. Manav Thakkar also fought valiantly in the singles against Wang Chuqin but was defeated 3-0. Prior to this, Desai and Kamal were eliminated early in the singles competitions, while Thakkar only participated in the team event. In contrast, the Indian women’s team advanced successfully, defeating Romania.
