Shericka Jackson Set to Make 2025 Track Return After Injury

Olympic champion Shericka Jackson is set to make her competitive return at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Development meet on January 25, 2025, after an injury sidelined her since July 2024. The event marks her first race since missing the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jackson aims to restore her dominance in the 200m as she prepares for the World Championships later this year.

Shericka Jackson, renowned as the fastest woman alive over the 200m distance, is poised to return to competitive action, participating in the 2025 indoor season. She is scheduled to compete in a women’s 60m race at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Development meet held at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday, January 25, marking her season debut.

Her last appearance was on July 9, 2024, when she suffered an injury during the Gyulai István Memorial in Hungary. Due to ongoing physical challenges, Jackson withdrew from both the women’s 100m and 200m events at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In a previous statement to Olympics.com, she mentioned that her withdrawal was due to a “combination of a lot of stuff.”

The 30-year-old athlete will go up against fellow Jamaican Krystal Sloley, who was last year’s winner, and Nigerian world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan. Amusan trains with renowned coach Glen Mills at the Racers Track Club in Jamaica, the same coach who guided Usain Bolt to his eight Olympic gold medals.

Jackson, who trains under Stephen Francis at the MVP Track and Field Club, aims to reclaim her previous dominance in the 200m outdoor events. She enjoyed an impressive unbeaten streak from June 2022 to May 2024, achieving three of the four fastest 200m times in history during that period. Jackson is an accomplished athlete, holding an Olympic gold medal from the sprint relay at the Tokyo 2020 Games and has her sights set on participating in the World Championships later this season.

Shericka Jackson has established herself as a formidable competitor in the realm of track and field. With an impressive background that includes multiple Olympic medals and a record-breaking performance in the 200m event, her return is highly anticipated. Injuries have recently sidelined her, impacting her performance and participation in major events such as the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jackson’s aspirations not only include a strong recovery but also a successful return to the World Championships, where she could further enhance her legacy in sprinting.

Shericka Jackson’s return to track and field is eagerly awaited after her injury absence. As she prepares to compete in the 60m race this weekend, her performance will be closely observed, particularly in light of her record-setting track history. Jackson’s potential re-emergence at the World Championships underscores her status as one of athletics’ elite, highlighting the resilience and dedication required to reclaim her position in the sport.
