Prime Minister Modi will co-host the AI Action Summit in France, focusing on the Global South’s concerns about AI safety and accessibility. India aims to share its expertise in digital public infrastructure while fostering strong India-France relations and addressing pressing global issues, including AI’s impact.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to France on February 10 to co-chair the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit. Indian Ambassador to France, Sanjeev Singla, affirmed that India will advocate for the Global South’s concerns regarding AI during this summit. He emphasized the necessity for AI tools to be secure, trustworthy, and equitable, ensuring they do not concentrate power in specific geographies or corporations.
Ambassador Singla outlined India’s strengths in the realm of AI, particularly its capability in developing digital public infrastructure aimed at serving as a public good. He noted that India possesses numerous successful examples in this domain and is poised to share this expertise with other nations worldwide.
On the topic of India-France relations, Singla highlighted the robust strategic partnership that has flourished for over 25 years, complemented by high-level exchanges such as Modi’s previous attendance at Bastille Day and Macron’s presence at India’s Republic Day. This partnership also encompasses discussions on shifting geopolitical dynamics, with AI being a focal point of these conversations.
Following the AI summit, a bilateral meeting will occur where Prime Minister Modi and President Macron will engage with the India-France CEOs forum. Modi is scheduled to proceed to Marseille on February 11, where President Macron will host a dinner in his honor. Furthermore, Modi will pay tribute to Indian soldiers who fell during World War I at a military cemetery on February 12 and will visit the location of the international thermal nuclear experimental reactor.
The upcoming AI Action Summit reflects the growing importance of artificial intelligence on the global stage. As nations continue to develop AI capabilities, the discourse around ensuring equitable access and safety in the use of AI tools has gained traction, especially for countries in the Global South. India’s strategic partnership with France signifies its commitment to engaging in meaningful discussions that address these critical issues.
The AI Action Summit in France presents a pivotal opportunity for India to voice the needs and concerns of the Global South regarding the development and implementation of AI technologies. By leveraging its strengths in digital public infrastructure, India aims to foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes safety, security, and equitable access across the globe. The deep-rooted relationship between India and France is instrumental in advancing these important dialogues.
