President Sisi Engages with WJC President and Jordan’s Crown Prince on Gaza Ceasefire
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi convened meetings with World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder and Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah to discuss the Gaza ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the importance of developing Palestinian statehood based on 1967 borders. They highlighted Egypt’s vital role in maintaining regional stability.
On Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held discussions with World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder and communicated with Jordan’s Crown Prince, Hussein bin Abdullah, regarding critical issues surrounding the hostage deal and humanitarian aid for Gaza. They convened at the presidential palace in Cairo, alongside the Chief of Egyptian General Intelligence, Hassan Rashad, to explore solutions to facilitate aid and promote a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Discussions centered on the ongoing efforts to enforce the ceasefire and ensure the release of hostages, with an emphasis on the importance of maintaining peace in the region. President Sisi urged all parties to fulfill their responsibilities and commitments to uphold the ceasefire, cautioning that prolonged conflict would negatively affect all stakeholders. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Additionally, Sisi called for a reconstruction initiative in Gaza while rejecting former President Donald Trump’s proposals regarding the relocation of the Gazan population. Lauder expressed satisfaction with their discussions, recognizing Egypt’s pivotal role in stabilizing the region and ensuring peace efforts.
In his phone conversation with Crown Prince Hussein, President Sisi stressed the significance of reinforcing bilateral ties with Jordan. Both leaders committed to coordinating efforts to sustain the ceasefire and enhance international aid, with Hussein commending Egypt’s essential role in curbing violence.
The Crown Prince also supported Sisi’s call for an Emergency Arab Summit focused on the Palestinian issue, highlighting the necessity for Arab unity on this front. Both leaders echoed the aspiration for an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, alongside deliberations regarding regional stability in Syria.
In summary, President Sisi’s meetings with Ronald Lauder and Crown Prince Hussein underscored Egypt’s active engagement in facilitating a ceasefire in Gaza and promoting humanitarian aid. The discussions emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts and Arab solidarity in addressing the ongoing conflict, advocating for Palestinian statehood and regional stability.
