On February 19, 2025, athletes from Utah who participated in the Paris 2024 Summer Games received recognition from the Utah Legislature. These Olympic and Paralympic athletes were awarded a special citation in both the House of Representatives and the Senate for their impressive performances and contributions to the state’s sporting culture.
Representative Jon Hawkins emphasized Utah’s status as a center for elite athletic training, stating, “Utah has long been a hub for elite training. Our universities and communities continue to shape some of the world’s best competitors.” The honored athletes competed in various events, including heptathlon, speed climbing, and discus throw, expressing their enthusiasm for future competitions and the potential to host the Olympics in Utah again in 2034.
Chari Hawkins, a noted heptathlete, shared her excitement about the Olympic atmosphere, saying, “There’s something about just being in the energy of the Olympics, and it’s so exciting that we have the opportunity to bring it back to Utah.” She further articulated the vibrant community spirit associated with the Olympic Games, both for athletes and spectators.
