Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang Meets with New Minister for Climate Change

Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, H.E. Li Minggang, visited Hon. Ralph Regenvanu to congratulate him on his new role. Both officials discussed strengthening cooperation in climate change initiatives, emphasizing China’s commitment to sustainable development and Vanuatu’s focus on renewable energy and emissions reduction.

On February 24, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, H.E. Li Minggang, conducted a courtesy meeting with Hon. Ralph Regenvanu, the newly appointed Minister for Climate Change Adaptation, Meteorology and Geo-Hazards, Energy, Environment, and National Disaster Management in Vanuatu. During this meeting, Ambassador Li extended his congratulations to Minister Regenvanu on his recent appointment to this significant role in Vanuatu’s government.

Ambassador Li reaffirmed China’s dedication to green and low-carbon development while emphasizing the importance of responding to climate change. He expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Vanuatu in enhancing their cooperative efforts on climate change initiatives, aligning with the principles outlined in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

In response, Hon. Regenvanu expressed appreciation for China’s valuable assistance in addressing climate change, especially in disaster prevention and relief efforts. He emphasized that climate change response is a priority in Vanuatu’s foreign policy agenda and reiterated the nation’s readiness to foster deeper collaboration with China in renewable energy development and carbon emission reduction, aiming for the achievement of Vanuatu’s 2030 sustainable development goals.

This meeting highlights the strengthening of bilateral relations between China and Vanuatu, particularly in the critical area of climate change. Both nations expressed a commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at combating climate-related challenges and enhancing their sustainable development goals.
