Chile to Export Frozen Fruits and Nuts to Indonesia
Chile is launching exports of frozen fruits and nuts to Indonesia after the market’s opening to six key products. With Indonesia’s expected growth rate of 5% annually, Chile aims to leverage its bilateral trade agreement for enhanced agricultural exports. Compliance with phytosanitary regulations will be mandatory for shipments.
Chile is set to commence the export of frozen fruits, including blueberries, cherries, kiwis, and grapes, as well as dried nuts to Indonesia, following the market’s opening to six significant Chilean products. The announcement was made by Minister of Agriculture Ignacia Fernández and various agricultural representatives. “The opening of this market represents a strategic opportunity to diversify the export destinations of the Chilean fruit industry,” Minister Fernández remarked.
Indonesia, with an anticipated annual growth rate of around 5% over the next five years, is a promising market for Chilean exports. This rate surpasses those of China, the United States, and Latin America. Chile has established a bilateral trade agreement with Indonesia, offering tariff preferences on agricultural products, with many facing a 0% tariff under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Exporters seeking to send nuts and frozen fruits to Indonesia must fulfill several requirements: accompany shipments with a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) from SAG, enter through designated points, and undergo inspections by the Indonesian Quarantine Authority. Additionally, any shipments transiting through a third country must have a Phytosanitary Certificate of Re-export from the transit country.
With a population of nearly 300 million, the Indonesian market holds substantial potential. Chile aims to further expand its sanitary offerings to include fresh lemons, while Indonesia has expressed interest in exporting ornamental plants to Chile. This collaboration could enhance bilateral cooperation in phytosanitary matters and broaden trade opportunities.
In summary, Chile is beginning exports of frozen fruits and nuts to Indonesia, capitalizing on the newly opened market and the strategic advantages offered by bilateral agreements. The combined population and growth potential of Indonesia represent a significant opportunity for the Chilean agricultural sector. Compliance with established import regulations will be essential for maximizing trade developments in this region.
