China Unveils Advanced Methanol-Diesel Dual-Fuel Ship Engine

China has launched a high-performance methanol-diesel dual-fuel ship engine that can produce 64,500 kilowatts. This engine, developed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), utilizes 95 percent methanol fuel, reducing emissions significantly. Incorporating advanced digital systems and 5G technology, the engine will first be installed on a large container ship, enhancing efficiency and monitoring capabilities.

On Wednesday, China introduced a state-of-the-art methanol-diesel dual-fuel ship engine at a launch event in Shanghai, as reported by News.az, citing Xinhua. The engine has a maximum output of 64,500 kilowatts and is developed by subsidiaries of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC). This innovative engine produces up to 95 percent of its power from methanol, leading to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by over 7.5 percent compared to conventional diesel engines.

Equipped with an advanced digital intelligent control system along with a flexible dual-fuel injection mechanism, the engine is designed for energy efficiency, high operational performance, and reduced maintenance costs. Furthermore, it integrates 5G communication technology facilitating real-time data transmission for effective monitoring and operational management. The first installation of this powerful engine will be on a 16,000-TEU container ship, marking a significant advancement in maritime technology and operations.
