The delegation comprises almost all of the EU’s commissioners, marking their first mission to India and the inaugural overseas visit for the new commission since its establishment in December. As the EU maintains significant trade relationships with India, it reportedly constitutes India’s largest trading partner with trade valued at €124 billion ($130 billion) in 2023, representing over 12% of India’s total trade. However, the EU faces high barriers in accessing the Indian market, comprising merely 2.2% of total EU trade in goods. The EU hopes to gain further market access for goods such as cars and spirits, while India seeks increased investment and collaborative opportunities in technology and infrastructure.
