Ghana to Host Chad in 2026 World Cup Qualifier at Accra Sports Stadium

FIFA has approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad on March 21, 2025. The Black Stars aim to improve their position in qualifying following a disappointing AFCON campaign. They have achieved nine points, and will also play against Madagascar in Morocco later in March.

FIFA has granted approval for Ghana’s Accra Sports Stadium to serve as the venue for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad. This pivotal match will take place during the March international break on Friday, March 21, 2025, commencing at 19:00 hours. The Black Stars aim to bolster their position in the qualifier series, aiming for a spot in the prestigious tournament.

After a disappointing performance in the recent African Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they failed to secure a place in the tournament for the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars are now dedicating their efforts to the World Cup qualifiers. Currently, they have amassed nine points from four matches, tying with Comoros, but holding second place due to three wins and one loss.

Ghana’s qualifying campaign commenced with a narrow 1-0 victory over Madagascar, followed by a setback against Comoros. However, the Black Stars bounced back impressively, achieving consecutive wins against Mali and the Central African Republic since last June. This momentum is crucial as they prepare for the match against Chad.

The most recent encounter held at the Accra Sports Stadium concluded with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Niger during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, marking a historic defeat as it was the first occasion Niger triumphed over Ghana on its home turf.

After facing Chad, Ghana will continue their journey by traveling to Morocco to compete against Madagascar for another World Cup qualifier on Monday, March 24, 2025. Originally scheduled in Antananarivo, the match has been relocated to Al Hoceima, Morocco, due to non-compliance of Madagascar’s national stadium with required standards.

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, is focusing on their 2026 World Cup qualification after a challenging AFCON campaign. With a match against Chad set at the Accra Sports Stadium, they look to strengthen their standings following impressive recent performances. The upcoming fixtures may determine their fate, especially with a subsequent qualifier against Madagascar in Morocco.
