The Russian Foreign Ministry has firmly rejected recent American efforts pressuring India to divest from Russian oil. Spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that India has not aligned itself with what she termed the “illegitimate restrictive measures” imposed by the West. She characterized the relationship between India and Russia as “privileged and strategic,” underlining their historical cooperation across various sectors, including defense and energy.

Zakharova stated that due to the special nature of Indo-Russian ties, it is inappropriate for Washington to make such demands. She reiterated Russia’s opposition to unilateral measures against its energy sector.
