Colombia Stays Undefeated and Brazil Secures First Win in Tucson Qualifier
Colombia remained undefeated in the Tucson World Baseball Classic Qualifier, defeating China 8-1, while Brazil achieved its first win against Germany, scoring 9-7. China is now at risk of elimination as both Colombia and Brazil vie for a spot in the World Baseball Classic 2026. Upcoming matches will determine the final qualifications for the tournament.
Colombia maintained its undefeated status on Day 2 of the Tucson World Baseball Classic Qualifier with an emphatic 8-1 victory over China, who now faces elimination with a record of 0-2. Brazil also celebrated a crucial success, defeating Germany 9-7, leaving both teams at a record of 1-1.
During the Colombia-China match, Colombia’s pitching staff delivered an impressive performance, allowing only three hits while scoring eight runs overall. Michael Arroyo set the tone with a double that propelled Colombia to a 2-0 lead. Additionally, Jesus Marriaga was a standout performer, contributing a two-run homer and four runs in total.
Marriaga expressed the team’s motivation to qualify for the World Baseball Classic 2026, stating, “The only goal is to make it to the World Baseball Classic 2026, not only for the people that are here but also for the people that are watching.” Coach Josè Mosquera remarked on how the team has evolved from being perceived as a weak competitor to becoming a contender in international baseball.
