Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Strengthens China-Cambodia Ties During Visit

Vice Minister Sun Weidong visited Cambodia from March 1 to 2, 2025, where he met with Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and co-chaired the China-Cambodia strategic dialogue. Both parties emphasized their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, combating cross-border crime, and addressing international issues collaboratively, thereby reinforcing the China-Cambodia partnership.

From March 1 to 2, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong conducted an official visit to Cambodia. During his stay, he engaged in a courtesy meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn. Additionally, he co-chaired the China-Cambodia strategic dialogue alongside Un Kheang, Secretary of State in the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, was present at these discussions.

Vice Minister Sun Weidong articulated that China and Cambodia share a fortified relationship characterized by companionship and mutual support. He emphasized the benefits of collaboration under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and Cambodian leadership, noting substantial progress in developing a China-Cambodia community. He affirmed China’s readiness to enhance bilateral relations through strategic initiatives, including an industrial corridor and cooperative efforts against cross-border crimes.

The Cambodian representatives expressed their commitment to strengthening Cambodia-China relations. They reaffirmed their friends’ policy approach towards China, pledging to support China’s core interests. Cambodia is eager to implement agreed-upon strategic initiatives, expand cooperative ventures, and work collaboratively in addressing cross-border crime, thereby fostering a community with a shared future.

Both parties engaged in profound discussions regarding international and regional challenges. They underscored the importance of adhering to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and emphasized the need for genuine multilateralism and regional openness. They aimed to enhance unity within the Global South, counter external interference, and contribute to regional peace and stability, striving for a more equitable international order.
