Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong’s Visit to Cambodia: Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited Cambodia on March 1-2, 2025, where he met with Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn. They co-chaired the China-Cambodia strategic dialogue, discussing the strengthening of bilateral ties, cooperation on various initiatives, and addressing regional challenges. Both sides expressed a commitment to enhancing their friendship and collaboration toward mutual benefits.
From March 1 to 2, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong traveled to Cambodia. During his visit, he met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn, and co-facilitated the China-Cambodia strategic dialogue alongside Secretary of State Un Kheang. Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin also participated in relevant discussions.
Sun Weidong emphasized the strong bond between China and Cambodia, noting they share a relationship as good neighbors and partners. Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and Cambodian authorities, the two nations have made significant strides in building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Cambodia to advance the recently agreed action plans, enhance exchanges, and strengthen cooperation in key areas.
The Cambodian government reiterated its commitment to nurturing Cambodia-China relations, promoting a policy of friendship towards China and supporting its core interests. Cambodia is eager to work alongside China to implement strategic agreements, broaden cooperation, and undertake projects that serve their people’s interests, particularly in combating cross-border crimes.
Both parties engaged in a thorough discussion on pressing international and regional issues. They underscored the importance of adhering to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and fostering true multilateralism and regional openness, while also agreeing to promote unity within the Global South and resist external interference to maintain regional stability.
