Launch of the “Bright Journey” Programme for Cataract Surgery in Zimbabwe
Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding and Health Minister Douglas Mombeshora launched the “Bright Journey” Programme on February 26, aimed at providing cataract surgery to over 600 patients in Zimbabwe. This initiative is part of the Health Partnership Action for Health from the FOCAC summit, representing a significant step in bilateral cooperation and friendship. Ambassador Zhou reiterated China’s commitment to health initiatives in Zimbabwe, while Minister Mombeshora highlighted the program’s impact on dignity and hope.
On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding participated in the Launch and Donation Ceremony for the “Bright Journey” Programme, aimed at providing cataract surgery in Zimbabwe. He was joined by Douglas T. Mombeshora, the Minister of Health and Child Care, alongside a team of Chinese medical experts and representatives from the cataract patient community.
Ambassador Zhou emphasized that the “Bright Journey” Programme represents a significant initiative under the Health Partnership Action for Health, as established during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This program is particularly meaningful, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, and aims to restore eyesight to over 600 cataract patients in the country. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to fostering a health community and enhancing medical collaboration with Zimbabwe.
Minister Mombeshora remarked that the “Bright Journey” Programme not only restores vision for many Zimbabweans but also brings them dignity and hope. He underscored the concept that health transcends national boundaries, pointing to this initiative as a testament to the enduring friendship between Zimbabwe and China. Furthermore, he expressed aspirations for productive outcomes from their ongoing bilateral medical cooperation.
