Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the U.N. Human Rights Office, expressed profound concern regarding these actions, stating, “It is deeply distressing that M23 is snatching patients from hospital beds in coordinated raids and holding them incommunicado in undisclosed locations.” She emphasized the need for the immediate release of the abducted individuals.
The M23 rebels have intensified their offensive in eastern Congo, resulting in the loss of approximately 3,000 lives and significant territorial gains since early this year.
