Mr. Wang illustrated the concept of unity by suggesting that the ‘dragon’ (China) and ‘elephant’ (India) should collaborate, as this partnership is essential for fostering the democratization of international relations and supporting the Global South. He did not receive a direct response from Indian officials concerning his statements.

In discussing evolving Sino-Indian relations, Mr. Wang acknowledged recent positive developments, notably military disengagement in the Ladakh region. He referenced meetings between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping, as well as discussions between Mr. Wang and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, indicating that these interactions had contributed to a warming of ties.

On the sensitive issue of border disputes, he cautioned against letting such specific differences define broader relations, advocating that relations should not be adversely affected by territorial disputes. Donald Trump recently signed an order to increase tariffs from 10 to 20 percent on Chinese imports, citing Beijing’s lack of control over fentanyl exports as justification. In response, China condemned the US tariffs and filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization, challenging the legitimacy of the tariffs and emphasizing their detrimental effect on economic relations between China and the US.
