India and the US are advancing talks on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement to boost trade relations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared updates on the expected extradition of Tahawwur Rana, involved in the 26/11 attacks, and announced PM Modi’s impending visit to Mauritius for national day celebrations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India, represented by spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, has announced that discussions between India and the United States are actively progressing towards a comprehensive multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). This agreement aims to enhance trade services between the two nations by facilitating greater market access, lowering tariff and non-tariff barriers, and bolstering supply chain integration.

Spokesperson Jaiswal noted, “During the Prime Minister’s visit to the US in February 2025, both sides announced plans to negotiate a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement. The Commerce and Industries Minister was in the US and met with his counterparts. The two governments are in the process of advancing discussions on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement.”

Regarding the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, the principal accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Jaiswal stated that he is expected to be extradited to India soon, as India collaborates closely with the United States government on this matter. He emphasized, “You would have seen President Trump’s comments regarding the extradition of Tahawwur Rana. The Joint Statement also reflects this sentiment. We are working closely with the US Government to complete the necessary formalities to allow for his extradition to India.”

Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a two-day state visit to Mauritius starting March 11, during which he will attend the island nation’s national day celebrations as the chief guest. The MEA confirmed that a contingent from the Indian defense forces will also take part in the festivities, following an invitation from Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
