Zimbabwean Students to Pursue Mechatronics Engineering in China

Thirty-two Zimbabwean students will study mechatronics in China under a joint program with Ningbo Polytechnic. This initiative follows a year of studies in Zimbabwe and aims to strengthen international educational ties. Positive results from prior cohorts highlight the program’s effectiveness in fostering job opportunities and skill development for Zimbabwe’s industrial agenda.

Thirty-two students from Zimbabwe will embark on an educational journey to China to pursue studies in mechatronics engineering. This initiative, coordinated between Harare Polytechnic and Ningbo Polytechnic, enables these students to engage in an 18-month program following completion of their first year in Zimbabwe. Such efforts symbolize a commitment to enhancing international educational collaboration.

At a ceremonial send-off at Harare Polytechnic, Deputy Minister Simelisizwe Sibanda highlighted the importance of this program. He noted that the historical ties between Zimbabwe and China have evolved into fruitful collaborations in various sectors, with education being a substantial focus. The dual certification received will benefit the students’ professional profiles significantly.

Sibanda further mentioned that this program has already produced results, with 58 students having participated so far. In 2023, 30 students successfully completed their training in China and have secured employment, illustrating the program’s effectiveness in addressing the skills gap in Zimbabwe.

Beneficiary Panashe Mudondo expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing the program’s role in equipping students with essential skills for national development. He shared optimism that the experience would inspire innovative ideas upon their return, thus contributing meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s industrialization and modernization objectives.

The joint training program for 32 Zimbabwean students demonstrates a progressive step in international educational cooperation between Zimbabwe and China. With its successful foundation, the program not only enhances students’ skills through dual certification but also actively contributes to Zimbabwe’s industrial needs. The positive outcomes from previous cohorts signify the program’s viability in bridging the skills gap needed for national development.
