China and Zimbabwe Celebrate 40 Years of Medical Cooperation

The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Chinese medical team’s presence with a reception. The event honored the 21st batch and welcomed the 22nd batch of medical personnel. Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister commended the partnership for promoting healthcare and strengthening bilateral relations. The Chinese embassy representative highlighted the ongoing cooperation in medical training and the substantial impact of the medical teams in Zimbabwe.

On March 8, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe hosted a reception to commemorate four decades of medical cooperation between China and Zimbabwe. This event served the dual purpose of bidding farewell to the 21st batch of the Chinese medical team, who were honored with medals for their exemplary service, and welcoming the 22nd batch.

Zimbabwean Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Sleiman Kwidini, praised the collaboration between Zimbabwe and China in the health sector, highlighting it as an exemplary model of mutual respect and friendship. He remarked that the medical teams over the years have not only provided quality healthcare to underserved populations but have also deepened the relationships between the two nations.

Kwidini emphasized the invaluable contributions of the Chinese medical teams, stating that their work exemplifies compassion and dedication, establishing a lasting legacy in both the healthcare system and the lives of many Zimbabweans.

Cheng Yan, the charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, reaffirmed the significance of this milestone, viewing it as a symbol of unwavering service and an enduring friendship between the nations. He noted that the medical teams embody China’s vision of a global health community and focus on creating lasting connections between their peoples.

Cheng also mentioned that the cooperation extends to medical training, with plans to invite over 60 Zimbabwean medical professionals to China for further development. This past year, the 21st batch treated over 14,000 patients, trained more than 1,000 local health workers, and established vital health infrastructure.

The reception marking the 40th anniversary of medical cooperation between China and Zimbabwe highlights the enduring partnership and mutual respect that has developed over the decades. With accomplishments including the treatment of thousands of patients and training of local health workers, the legacy of this collaboration is expected to influence both nations positively for generations to come.
