Egyptian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Discuss Palestine and Syria Developments
Foreign Ministers Badr Abdelatty of Egypt and Hakan Fidan of Turkey convened in Jeddah to discuss support for Palestine, particularly Gaza’s reconstruction and Syria’s stability. Progress in Egypt-Turkey relations was noted, along with the endorsement of an Arab plan and Syria’s reinstated OIC membership.
On March 7, 2025, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah. The discussions focused on supporting the Palestinian people and enhancing bilateral relations as the two nations celebrate the century mark of their diplomatic ties.
Minister Abdelatty highlighted notable advancements in the Egypt-Turkey relationship across various sectors, attributing progress to increased high-level visits. He updated Minister Fidan on the outcomes of the recent Arab Summit held in Cairo, outlining a five-year plan aimed at the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, alongside efforts to maintain a ceasefire in the region.
Minister Fidan acknowledged the success of the Arab Summit and the Egyptian reconstruction initiative. He suggested exploring further cooperation among Arab and Islamic states within the OIC to secure both political and material support for the reconstruction plan.
Additionally, the ministers discussed the ongoing military and security situation in Syria. They reaffirmed their commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and stability, underlining the significance of addressing all forms of violence and ensuring a comprehensive political process that accommodates all Syrian demographics and safeguards their rights.
The OIC meeting concluded with the announcement of Syria’s reinstated membership and an endorsement of the Arab reconstruction plan for Gaza.
The recent meeting between Egyptian and Turkish foreign ministers underscored robust bilateral relations and collaborative efforts to support Palestine.
