Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will visit China, Thailand, and Japan in the coming months to strengthen international ties. His itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and participation in the Bimstec Summit and the Nikkei Future of Asia event.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, is planning visits to China, Thailand, and Japan in the upcoming months to enhance global relations and cooperation. He is set to depart Dhaka for China on March 26, following the Independence Day celebrations. A significant bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping is anticipated to take place on March 28 in Beijing, facilitated by an invitation from the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen.

Prior to the meeting with President Xi, Yunus is expected to attend the Boao Forum for Asia conference from March 25 to 28 in Hainan, China. The forum’s theme will be “Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future,” focusing on development and promoting international cooperation through dialogue. High-profile participants from other countries, international organizations, and major enterprises have been confirmed to attend.

In April, Yunus intends to represent Bangladesh at the 6th Bimstec Summit in Bangkok, where he will assume the role of chair. A ministerial meeting is scheduled for April 3, followed by the summit on April 4. There exists the possibility of an inaugural face-to-face meeting between Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing Bangladesh’s commitment to regional cooperation.

Additionally, Yunus has received an invitation from Japanese parliamentary vice-minister Ikuina Akiko to attend the Nikkei 30th Future of Asia event in Tokyo on May 29-30, along with an invitation to the Osaka Expo 2025. Coordination is underway for a potential meeting between Yunus and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during his visit.

Professor Muhammad Yunus is poised to strengthen international relations through upcoming visits to China, Thailand, and Japan. These engagements focus on enhancing bilateral ties, with significant meetings planned, notably with Presidents Xi Jinping and Shigeru Ishiba. Nigeria’s leadership in regional diplomacy at the Bimstec Summit will further showcase its commitment to fostering cooperation within South Asia.
