Kremlin Transmits Expectations for U.S.-Ukraine Talks in Saudi Arabia
The Kremlin has stated that the U.S. will inform Russia about the outcome of U.S.-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia. These discussions, aimed at exploring peace options, involve senior U.S. and Ukrainian officials. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed rumors regarding peace initiatives and commented on NATO’s status.
On Tuesday, the Kremlin announced that the United States would brief Russia on the results of the ongoing talks between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, “Today, American and Ukrainian officials are meeting in Jeddah. In some way, the American side…will inform us about the outcome.” This dialogue is part of the U.S. exploration of pathways towards a peaceful settlement between Moscow and Kyiv.
During these discussions, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz met with senior Ukrainian officials, including Andriy Yermak, a key aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Prior to the meeting, President Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine’s stance would be “absolutely constructive.”
Peskov also commented on rumors regarding the visit of U.S. Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine Steven Witkoff, expressing that any updates would be communicated promptly. He dismissed Western media’s speculation regarding a possible six-month ceasefire as “inaccurate” and emphasized the importance of relying on official information.
Furthermore, in response to inquiries about a potential U.S. withdrawal from NATO, Peskov indicated it was not a matter of concern for Russia, referring to NATO’s charter for clarity. He noted that discussing the positions of the conflicting parties at this time was not viable, stating, “Only today will the Americans learn from Ukraine to what extent Ukraine is ready for peace.”
This situation underscores the dynamic international relations as significant discussions continue regarding the conflict and pathways to resolution in Eastern Europe.
In summary, the Kremlin has confirmed that the United States will relay the outcomes of discussions with Ukraine occurring in Saudi Arabia. These talks signify a U.S. initiative towards negotiating a peaceful resolution. While speculation persists about ceasefire arrangements and U.S. relations with NATO, Peskov has urged reliance on official announcements and cautions against premature interpretations of the ongoing negotiations.
