United International University’s IRIIC has become Bangladesh’s first Regional Hub for the 2025 Harvard Health Systems Innovation Hackathon, with recognition announced by Harvard HSIL on March 4, 2025. United International University’s Institute for Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialisation (IRIIC) has achieved a landmark status by becoming the first Regional Hub for the 2025 Harvard Health Systems Innovation Hackathon in Bangladesh. This recognition is underpinned by support from the Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Development Project (DEIED) of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and the ICT Ministry. Harvard HSIL announced this significant milestone on March 4, 2025.
In collaboration with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL), IRIIC joins an elite global network of institutions hosting this notable hackathon event. The 2025 edition is focused on generating AI-driven solutions for health systems challenges, continuing the HSIL Hackathon’s historical role in fostering transformative healthcare innovations worldwide. Prior editions have successfully addressed issues such as digital health in Africa and diabetes care across Asia and Latin America.
The theme for this year’s event is “Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence.” Noteworthy participating hubs include globally recognized institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Sydney, King’s College London, Koç University, Tsinghua University, and NTU Singapore. The hackathon will take place on April 11-12, 2025, where participants will engage in a rigorous, two-day event to develop healthcare solutions rooted in artificial intelligence.
During the hackathon, participants will work in teams under the guidance of expert mentors to refine their concepts and present their ideas to a panel of judges. This immersive experience offers not only competition but also mentorship and possible access to venture incubation opportunities. Winning teams will benefit from the HSIL Venture Incubation Programme, designed to support the transition of innovative concepts into executable solutions via mentorship, funding strategies, and market access.
The event welcomes participants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-stage startups in fields such as healthcare, public health, engineering, and business. Teams of three to five members are encouraged to register, focusing on the development of nascent ideas rather than well-formed innovations.
