JD Vance previously visited France and Germany in February, where he criticized European nations regarding issues of illegal migration, religious freedoms, and election integrity, during his address at the Munich Security Conference.

The timing of the Vances’ visit coincides with ongoing trade negotiations between India and the US. Recently, US President Donald Trump expressed concerns regarding high tariffs imposed by countries including India, Brazil, and China, stating that reciprocal tariffs would begin to take effect on April 2.

Union Minister Jitin Prasada indicated in Parliament that both countries aim to improve market access, minimize tariff and non-tariff barriers, and enhance supply chain integration. On February 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump agreed to pursue the first phase of a comprehensive trade agreement, setting an ambitious goal to more than double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, creating the initiative termed “Mission 500.”
