Thirty-two students from Harare Polytechnic’s Mechatronics Department are traveling to China for an advanced training program at Ningbo Polytechnic. This initiative aims to strengthen international cooperation in education and aligns with Zimbabwe’s 2030 economic goals. The training includes a dual certification program, culminating in qualifications from both institutions.

A cohort of thirty-two students from the Mechatronics Department of Harare Polytechnic has departed for China, participating in the Applied Talent Joint Teaching Programme (ATJTP) at Ningbo Polytechnic. This initiative represents a significant advancement in the institution’s pursuit of international educational collaboration, as reported by New Ziana.

The students were celebrated in a send-off ceremony, where Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Frederick Shava, was represented by his deputy, Simelisizwe Sibanda. They emphasized the importance of this opportunity, encouraging students to acquire advanced mechatronics skills to benefit Zimbabwe’s development goals.

During their training, which consists of 12 months at Harare Polytechnic followed by 18-24 months at Ningbo Polytechnic, students will complete a dual certification program. Upon graduation, they will earn a national certificate in Millwrights from Harare Polytechnic along with a Diploma in Mechatronics from Ningbo Polytechnic.

The program aims to provide students with exposure to contemporary technological advancements in mechatronics, empowering them to contribute significantly to Zimbabwe’s economic aspirations by 2030.

In conclusion, the participation of Harare Polytechnic students in the ATJTP at Ningbo Polytechnic is poised to enhance their skills in mechatronics significantly. The initiative not only fosters international cooperation in education but also aligns with Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper middle-income economy by the year 2030. The dual certification training format provides students with extensive opportunities to gain valuable expertise that will ultimately contribute to the nation’s development.
