India Tops Medal Tally at World Para Athletics Grand Prix

India achieved the highest medal count at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, with a total of 134 medals, including 45 golds. Notable performances included Vanessa Low’s gold in long jump and Preethi Pal’s bronze in the 200m T35-38 race. The country will host the event annually until 2028.

India achieved remarkable success at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, securing a total of 134 medals, comprising 45 gold, 40 silver, and 49 bronze. Competing among approximately 150 Indian athletes and around 100 from 19 other countries, India topped the medal tally, showcasing exceptional talent and determination.

Vanessa Low, a three-time Paralympic champion from Australia, excelled in the T61-64 class long jump, winning gold with a leap of 4.96 meters. India’s Preethi Pal received a bronze medal in the women’s T35-38 class 200m race on the final day of the Grand Prix, clocking a commendable 31.50 seconds after also achieving a silver in the 100m event.

In the men’s shot put F11-F20 classification, Indian athletes dominated the podium, with Sagar obtaining gold with a throw of 11.47 meters. Additionally, the women’s long jump T20–T37 event saw Irina Sapanzha clinching gold, while India’s Bhuvi Agarwal secured bronze in the same category.

The Grand Prix success is marked by India’s commitment, having signed a four-year agreement to host the event annually until 2028. Vanessa Low expressed her delight in participating in India, indicating her plans to return for the forthcoming World Para Athletics Championships scheduled for September.
