Houthis Threaten Retaliation Following U.S. Strikes in Yemen

The U.S. has launched airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, following their attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The Houthis reported casualties and vowed retaliation, while President Trump cautioned Iran about its support for the rebels. Iranian officials claim the Houthis act independently.

The United States has commenced extensive military strikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, following the group’s recent assaults on vessels in the Red Sea. The action, ordered by President Donald Trump, is a response to escalating hostilities stemming primarily from the Iran-backed insurgents.

As reported by the Houthi Ministry of Health, the airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 31 individuals and left 101 others injured. A Houthi spokesperson declared to NBC News that the group intends to react with “more escalation,” affirming, “Our response will not be delayed.”

Moreover, NBC News highlighted that the U.S. military action occurred shortly after the Houthis declared their intent to recommence attacks against Israeli ships departing from Yemen. This strategy is framed as a reaction to Israel’s blockade of Gaza, which has impeded humanitarian aid delivery to the enclave.

President Trump, in authorizing the strikes, cautioned Iran against its support of the rebel factions and vowed to hold the nation “fully accountable” for the activities of its proxies, including the Houthis. Iran has been alleged to be providing the group with financial assistance, training, and military resources.

In a statement to Iranian state media, Hossein Salami, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, asserted that Iran would take decisive action against any adversary that imposes threats. However, he clarified that Iran does not influence the decision-making of the Houthis, emphasizing their autonomy in operational choices.

The United States has initiated military strikes against the Houthis in Yemen following their maritime assaults. The Houthis have vowed retaliation, promising increased hostilities in response to the airstrikes. President Trump has warned Iran of accountability for its support to the group, while Iranian officials maintain that the Houthis operate independently. This dynamic highlights the complex geopolitical tensions in the region.
